You will be expected to make extensive use of the neutron scattering facilities at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO). Some travel to the Australian Synchrotron in Melbourne and other major facilities will also be required. Sample preparation and other physical property characterisation will be conducted at the University of Sydney. To be successful in this position you will have: * a PhD in Chemistry, Physics or Materials Science * a demonstrated ability in the synthesis of oxides containing transition metals * a demonstrated ability to conduct research in hard condensed matter * proficiency in the collection and analysis of powder diffraction data * experience in using diffraction and/or spectroscopic methods * excellent organisational and communication skills * experience in research record keeping and the preparation of research papers for publication. Some familiarity with the operation of a Quantum Design PPMS and with Rietveld Refinement, as well as experience in X-ray spectroscopy (XPS/XAS) and in preparing applications for beam time at major neutron and/or synchrotron facilities will all be highly regarded. The position is fixed term for two years subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. Further offers may be available subject to performance, needs and funding. Remuneration package: $95K p.a. (which includes base salary $80.5K p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation).
