A post-doctoral position is open at the Nuclear Physics Institute in ?ež, Czech Republic, for an instrument scientist who will be responsible for the operation and further development of the neutron powder diffractometer MEREDIT and conducting research using neutron diffraction in the field of condensed matter physics and material research in collaboration with external users. About Nuclear Physics Institute CAS Nuclear Physics Institute CAS (NPI), public research institution, conducts research in a broad field of nuclear physics, experimental as well as theoretical. The Department of Neutron Physics at NPI operates several neutron scattering instruments including the neutron powder diffractometer MEREDIT (http://neutron.ujf.cas.cz/meredit). In the frame of CANAM infrastructure, this diffractometer serves both internal and external users to study crystal structures in-situ under various sample conditions (high and low temperatures, mechanical loading). Job description The successful candidate will be responsible for the research program at the powder diffractometer MEREDIT, developing its capability and related experimental methods, including in-situ techniques and data analysis methods. This position involves collaboration with external users of the diffractometer by providing expertise and support during experiments, participation on data analysis and publication of results. The candidate is also expected to develop his/her own research program in the area related to the scientific scope of the diffractometer MEREDIT. The duration of the fixed-term contract is up to three years (renewable for a further period subject to performance), starting at the earliest convenience of the successful candidate. We offer the work in a group of motivated researchers, professional growth, and a competitive salary (depending on experience and potential in research). Please address specific questions to this position to: Dr. Jan Saroun, saroun@ujf.cas.cz Requested Profile Applicants are expected to have, or be working towards, a doctoral degree (PhD) in a relevant scientific field such as material physics, chemistry, crystallography, materials engineering or a related field. Ability of autonomous scientific work evidenced by a publication record in peer reviewed scientific journals, flexibility and teamwork, fluent communication in English are all requirements. Experience with diffraction methods and programs for Rietveld analysis is most welcome. How to Apply Please send your application including motivation letter, curriculum vitae with a publication record, copy of diploma and/or PhD certificate and references, by e-mail to Dr. Pavel Strunz strunz@ujf.cas.cz tel. +420 266 173 553 Deadline for application 22th October 2018 With best regards, Jan Saroun Nuclear Physics Institute Czech Academy of Sciences Hlavni 130, 25068 Rez, Czech Republic phone: +420 266173140 fax: +420 220940141 mailto:saroun@ujf.cas.cz
