Together these facilities operate 30 instruments for neutron scattering research, each year carrying out in excess of 1,000 experiments in the physical, chemical, materials, biological and medical sciences. HFIR also provides unique facilities for isotope production and neutron irradiation. To learn more about Neutron Sciences at ORNL go to: http://neutrons.ornl.gov. The Nuclear Safety and Experiment Analysis (NSEA) Group within the Research Reactors Division (RRD), Neutron Sciences Directorate (NScD), Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), seeks early to mid-career applicants for an applied Research and Development (R&D) staff position as a nuclear safety analyst to support the HFIR. In this role, you will be a member of the NSEA Group within RRD providing analytical support to the safe reliable operation of the HFIR. You will also support the Nuclear Materials, Fuel, and Experiment teams within RRD by providing analytical support for proposed experiments, material irradiations, and the production of isotopes. Major Duties/Responsibilities --Preparation and maintenance of the HFIR Safety Analysis Report (SAR), HFIR Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs), and the HFIR Cold Neutron Source Documented Safety Analysis (CS DSA). --Preparation and maintenance of the HFIR safety basis documents, in addition to the SAR, CS DSA and TSRs, such as the HFIR Safety Related Equipment List (SREL), and the HFIR Hazards Analysis. --Assuring technical compliance with 10 CFR Part 830 Subparts A and B, affecting reactor safety, through implementation of ORNL Standards Based Management System (SBMS) and RRD procedures. --Assisting other RRD groups with the resources necessary to comply with nuclear safety requirements relative to their respective functions, disciplines and responsibilities. --Application of the unreviewed safety question (USQ) process per ORNL SBMS and RRD procedure. --Serve as safety analyst for primary coolant high pressure system, primary coolant cleanup system, primary pressurization system, exhaust system(s), and/or control rod drive system, --Serve as alternate safety analyst for assigned systems, primarily associated with water chemistry/treatment, secondary coolant, fire protection, exhaust, steam/air supply, and facility structure. --Provides guidance to engineering, maintenance, and operations on SREL and TSR-related concerns. --Adherance to the rules and regulations that govern the operation of a DOE nuclear facility such as HFIR. --Formulates/postulates research and/or testing needed to validate safety analysis assumptions or controls.
