The NCNR is a world leader in neutron sciences serving more than 2200 research participants/year resulting in over 300 scientific publications/year (annual reports available at http://www.ncnr.nist.gov/AnnualReport/). HFBS is operated in the Structures and Dynamics of Materials team, encompassing both elastic and inelastic neutron scattering instruments that cover science ranging from dynamics of biomolecules, chemistry of materials, to hard-condensed matter. The Center additionally operates a variety of complementary facilities, such as X-ray diffractometers, analytic chemistry instruments and gas adsorption apparatus, and has access to a wide range of other resources such as state-of-the-art bio-deuteration facilities through partnerships with other NIST labs. and local universities. While the successful candidate will routinely contribute to instrumental activities, upgrades, and aid visiting scientists with experiments and data analysis a strong emphasis will be placed on developing a world-class scientific research program using cold neutron scattering techniques. Candidates must have a PhD and preferably postdoctoral experience in a physical science a strong work ethic, good communications skills and a proven publication record. Experience in neutron or X-ray scattering is desirable but not essential. The position is open immediately and the appointment term will be for up to five years with the potential for extension.
