With about 1100 employees, it hosts the user facilities BER II for neutron scattering, tomography and radiography at the Lise-Meitner campus in Berlin Wannsee and the electron storage ring BESSY II at the Wilhelm-Conrad-Röntgen campus in Berlin Adlershof. The Institute of Soft Matter and Functional Materials at the Lise-Meitner Campus combines expertise on versatile fields of soft condensed matter with the power of a neutron and X-ray scattering facility. The institute serves the BER II and BESSY II user facilities open to guest scientists from all over the world. To probe the structure and dynamics of condensed matter, BER II and BESSY II provide the national and international research community access to state-of-the-art neutron and x-ray scattering equipment and expertise. The Institute of Soft Matter and Functional Materials at the Helmholtz-Centre Berlin invites applications for a postdoctoral position in neutron reflectometry. The position is open to post-doctoral candidates who hold a Ph.D. degree in physics, chemistry, material science or engineering with a strong background in experimental research in soft matter or material science. Experience in neutron and X-ray reflectometry or small angle neutron and X-ray scattering is appreciated. The successful candidate will participate in the research and development work associated with state-of- the-art neutron scattering instrumentation at the neutron reflectometers V6 and BioRef. She/he will collaborate with renowned guest scientists from all over the world conducting research in a broad variety of subjects in the framework of the BER II user program. She/he will participate in the instrument development scheme at V6 and BioRef. The candidate will conduct her/his own research program in the field of soft condensed matter research primarily using neutrons, photons and dedicated lab.-based techniques. At BER II 30% of the instrument beam time is reserved for in-house research. For informal inquiries, please contact: Dr. Roland Steitz (steitz@helmholtz-berlin.de). http://www.helmholtz-berlin.de/forschung/funkma/soft-matter/index_en.html Applicants should send a letter of application, a detailed CV and the contact details of at least two academic referees, a list of publications and copies of degrees to Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie, Abt. Personal und Soziales, Hahn-Meitner-Platz 1, D-14109 Berlin, Germany, quoting reference No. F2013/3 (email: personalabteilung@helmholtz-berlin.de). Closing date: 11 March 2013. As HZB endeavors to increase the amount of women working in the scientific field, women are especially encouraged to apply. Handicapped applicants will be given preference to others of equal qualification.
