The neutron source itself, its research instruments as well as the irradiation facilities provide unique possibilities for the scientific and industrial use of neutron beams. For further development and operation of our high-resolution time-of-flight spectrometer TOFTOF and related projects, we invite applications (full time position 40.1h/week) under the reference number W0419TOFTOF of two Instrument scientists Description of position You play a leading role in the development of methods and instrumentation in the area of high resolution time-of-flight spectroscopy with cold neutrons and are responsible for the operation of the spectrometer TOFTOF at the FRM II. In close collaboration with scientists and engineers from other in-house groups, you will be engaged in the upgrade of the instrument and the development and simulations of similar instruments at FRM II. In addition, you pursue your own research interests based on neutron scattering techniques, i.e. neutron spectroscopy. Qualification and Experience You have a degree in physics, chemistry, material science or related fields , ideally completed with a PhD / doctorate degree. You have knowledge and experience in the application of neutron scattering or other scattering techniques to investigate the dynamical properties of condensed matter. Knowledge on simulation tools by Monte- Carlo methods are helpful. Persuasive communication skills and ability to work in a team in an international environment are mandatory. Good oral and written English skills are required, German language skills are an asset. The appointment is initially limited; a prolongation is possible. The payment is based on the German pay scale TV-L. The Technical University Munich is an equal opportunity employer. Therefore, women are especially encouraged to apply. Handicapped applicants having an equivalent experience will be preferred. Further information is given by the head of our instrument group, Dr. Wiebke Lohstroh (E-Mail: wiebke.lohstroh@frm2.tum.de, phone +49 89 289 14735). Applications will be reviewed after May 12th, 2019 and are accepted until the positions are filled. Applicants should send a letter of interest describing relevant experience including detailed curriculum vitae by regular or electronic mail (merged to a pdf file) under the reference number W0419TOFTOF to: Technische Universität München Forschungsneutronenquelle Heinz Maier-Leibnitz (FRM II) Personalabteilung Lichtenbergstraße 1 D-85747 Garching Phone: +49 89 289 14614 E-Mail: jobs@frm2.tum.de www.frm2.tum.de ------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. Jürgen Neuhaus Forschungs-Neutronenquelle Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Technische Universität München D-85747 Garching Tel: +49 89 289 12187 Fax: +49 89 289 14995 www.frm2.tum.de www.mlz-garching.de
