The neutron source itself, its research instruments as well as the irradiation facilities provide unique possibilities for the scientific and industrial use of neutron beams. Within the collaboration of the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum (MLZ) we operate jointly, together with the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, the small angle scattering instrument SANS-1. For the operation and further development, we invite applications (full time position 40.1 h/week) as Instrument scientist Description of position Your task is the operation of the SANS-1 instrument and user support for external and internal researchers. You are involved in further development of the instrument and its scientific use and are part of the core instrument team as co-responsible instrument scientist. You collaborate closely with scientists and engineers from different groups and research areas. You pursue your own research topics related to soft-matter physics or biology based on the use of scattering techniques, especially on small angle neutron scattering. Qualification and Experience You have a degree in physics, chemistry, material science or related fields, ideally completed with a PhD / doctorate degree. You have knowledge and experience in the application of scattering techniques especially with neutrons or synchrotron radiation. You gained experience in the research of soft matter systems or questions related to biology. Persuasive communication skills and ability to work in a team in an international environment are mandatory. Good oral and written English skills are required, German language skills are an asset.
